New Team Accelerator Day

Establish purpose, clear roles, and shared operational mechanics from day one.

Most newly formed teams, task forces, or committees waste crucial early momentum swimming in operational ambiguity. They launch with a clear charge or formal mandate, but lack defined roles, understood connections, or agreed-upon norms for working together. This focused intensive transforms a collection of individual leaders into an aligned, high-performing unit. By marrying practical team development theory with hands-on alignment tools, we build the operational "wiring diagram" for your work together—giving your team absolute clarity on why you exist, who owns what, and how you will execute.

From Understanding to Action

A structured, hands-on experience to strengthen how your team works together, from real conversations to practical tools and lasting agreements.

1

Frame the Reality of Team Growth

We introduce Tuckman's Stages of Group Development (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing), helping the team understand that development is non-linear and that early friction ("Storming") is a normal phase of growth. We emphasize that moving efficiently into "Norming" and "Performing" requires intentional operational structure rather than just passing time.

2

Purpose and Charge Clarification

For committees and task forces, we deconstruct the formal charge to ensure full alignment on deliverables. For intact leadership teams, we focus on organizational mission and shared work expectations. Participants articulate the unique value and expertise they bring to the table.

3

From Why to How

Over a working lunch and into the afternoon, the team transitions from why they exist to how they will execute. Members define their specific task ownership, negotiate operational hand-offs, and map external dependencies or system blockers. Where selected, we integrate LEGO® Serious Play®, having leaders physically build individual task models and connect them into a single 3D operational model.

4

Synthesize and Move Forward

The day concludes with concrete synthesis: establishing shared working agreements, confirming immediate operational next steps, and creating a living reference framework for future meetings.

What's unique about our approach

We bridge practical team theory with tangible operational outputs. Instead of generic "icebreakers" or purely social activities, we focus on functional alignment, building an operating model centered around real work, shared goals, and defined task flow.

Grounded in adult learning and human-centered design, our methodology ensures every voice is engaged. Using structured negotiation frameworks or optional LEGO® Serious Play® tactile modeling, we surface hidden assumptions, resolve ambiguous hand-offs, and build deep foundational trust through work clarity rather than artificial exercises.

Optional add-ons for sustained impact

Optional add-ons

An Accelerator Session can stand alone or serve as the launchpad for deeper organizational development:

LEGO® Serious Play® Formation Lab

A fully integrated 3D modeling experience where participants build physical models of their unique value, connect task hand-offs, and map system dependencies on a physical landscape.

Follow-Up Strategic Debriefs

Facilitated post-announcement or post-launch debrief sessions to help leadership teams process organizational news and recalibrate working agreements.

CliftonStrengths Integration

Layering individual and team CliftonStrengths profiles onto the formation process to align task ownership with natural talent themes.

FAQ

Is this session better for time-bound committees or permanent leadership teams?

Both. For committees, task forces, or advisory boards, it establishes clear operational wiring around a specific charge. For intact or reconfigured executive teams, it serves as an alignment reset to clarify roles, working styles, and long-term operating norms.

How does Tuckman's model fit into a single-day session?

Tuckman’s stages (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing) provide a common, practical framework for team dynamics. Normalizing that team development is non-linear helps leaders handle friction constructively and build explicit working agreements ("Norming") before friction turns into frustration.

Is LEGO® Serious Play® required for this session?

No. LEGO® Serious Play® is an optional, highly effective facilitation add-on. We can run the entire formation session using structured graphic templates and card sorts, or integrate 3D LEGO® modeling based on your team's preferences.

What do we need to provide?

A functional meeting space set up for group interaction, along with access to a screen with audio. If the committee or team has a formal charter, charge, or mission document, we ask that it be provided in advance.

What impacts the pricing of a New Leadership Team Formation Day?

For New Leadership Team Formation Accelerator Days specifically, you have the option to incorporate LEGO®. You can also choose to keep your LEGO® bricks and models at cost. Individual window kit bags are $15 per participant; shared model boxes start at $100 per table. Your group can opt to use and return our LEGO® components instead for no additional charge. There is also a cost per participant for materials, such as worksheets, folders, and other activities we’ll provide. Thus, an Accelerator Day with 100 participants will have a higher cost than an Accelerator Day with 10 participants.
