Melinda has served in various capacities in higher education for over three decades including work at public flagship, public regional, land-grant, private, Jesuit, and faith-based institutions including the University of Missouri S & T, the University of Northern Colorado, Arkansas Tech University, The University of Mississippi, Saint Louis University, Southern Methodist University, and The University of Memphis. Currently, she serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs at The University of Memphis with a portfolio that includes housing and residence life, dining, parking & transportation, conference and event services, the student union, University bookstore, vending, University service court, mail services, Tiger Copy and Graphics, and the University Beverage Contract. She received both her MS and BA from Eastern Illinois University.

She has served on the governing council for SEAHO (Southeast Association of Housing Officers), on the planning team and faculty for RELI, Regional Entry Level Institute (within SEAHO), as NHTI (NATIONAL Housing Training Institute) Faculty, Chair of the ACUHO-I (Association of College and University Housing Officers – International) Women in Housing Network, participated in the NASPA Institute for new AVPS, and currently serves as a member of the ACUHO-I Foundation Board.
